On the Texas frontier outside Fredericksburg, two German immigrant brothers fight on opposing sides in the Civil War, leaving their wives to fend for themselves. One is a pampered, self-absorbed newly-wed, the other a German matron of stern work ethic. As contentious as North and South, the women are forced to overcome their mutual disdain and fight for their survival. But neither anticipates the extremes to which they would resort.
