Steena Hernandez is a Mexican-American author living in San Antonio, TX with her family, including two energetic children. She holds a BFA in music, theatre, and dance from Texas Tech University and has taught Theatre Arts in middle school and high school. Steena is an active member of SCBWI, and she writes stories that represent and amplify Latine voices. Her stories have appeared in Highlights High Five Magazine, Little Thoughts Press Magazine. Her debut picture book, Lupita's Brown Ballet Slippers, recently won the Northern Lights Book Award in the Arts Category, was selected for the Notable Social Studies Trade Book 2025 list, and was longlisted for The Pedro and Daniel Intersectionality Book Award. Most days you can find her cooking spicy meals, or curled up in a cozy spot reading with her children.
