Maria Xenia Wells Zevelechi spent her career at the University of Texas at Austin.
 
The highlights of her career include: an invitation by the President of the University of Bologna, to give one of the Centennial Lectures for the 900 Anniversary of the University; an invitation by the Italian Ambassador to participate in a meeting of Italian scholars, in Rome; the organization of a Symposium on the Novel, History and Movie, of The Leopard, with the participation of distinguished guest speakers , Gioacchino Lanza Tomasi, Luigi lo Piccolo, Prince of Lampedusa and Burt Lancaster.
 
After retiring from Academia, she embraced Poetry. Inspired by a friend’s painting she wrote Memories in Silver, at a Writers and Poets meeting in Paris. She is a member of the Austin Poetry Society, and has given readings in Austin, Paris and Greece.
 
Her civic and cultural participation have included an active role in the Sierra Club, President of the Board of Directors of Salon Concerts, member of the Fundraiser and Scholarship Committee for Zonta International Association of Business and Professional Women, and member of the Leadership Circle of Austin PBS.
 
With two daughters, five grandchildren and the memory of a loving husband, she lives in Austin, Texas.
