LINDSLEY, PHILIP (1843–1911). Philip Lindsley, lawyer and author, the son of Nathaniel and Julia (Stevens) Lindsley, was born on August 2, 1843, in Nashville, Tennessee. After graduation from Cumberland University, he served with the Seventh Tennessee Regiment during the Civil War. He was president of the Nashville city council and a member of the Tennessee legislature. In 1869 he married Louise Grundy Dickinson of Columbus, Mississippi. Lindsley moved in 1875 to Dallas, Texas, where he practiced law and entered the investment field. He published Humor in the Court Room (1899) and The History of Greater Dallas and Vicinity (1909). He was a member of the Texas and American Bar associations and of the Sons of the American Revolution. He died in Dallas on December 4, 1911, and was survived by hiswidow and four children.
